ALLOTMENTS
The Council has two allotment sites. One at Melrose Avenue which is well used, and there are very few vacancies. The Allotment Holders Association takes an active interest in keeping it as clean and tidy as possible.

The second site at Allum Lane (accessed off Watling Street is under-used, and many of the original plots have returned to a 'natural state', and are no longer suitable for allotment use.

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

Since the 1970s the Town Council has provided one of the best Christmas street decoration displays in North London and Hertfordshire.

The Council has bought new decorations in recent years as part of a major renewal programme to ensure a fresh new look to the displays.

PUBLIC CLOCKS
Town and Parish Councils have a discretionary power to maintain public clocks, and the Council currently meets the cost of maintaining the clocks on All Saints Church in Borehamwood and St Nicholas Church in Elstree

CLOSED CHURCHYARDS
The Council cares for two closed churchyards in the town area, one at All Saint Church, Borehamwood and one at St Nicholas church, Elstree.

COACH TRIPS
The Council runs a programme of coach outings to various seaside and countryside destinations for qualifying residents aged 60 or over each summer (during June and July). This started in 1988 and continues to be a success.

New destinations are tried each year with up to 900 people taking the opportunity to have an affordable day trip
.   Tickets for 2008 go on sale in May 2008.

YOUTH COUNCIL

The Council has a proactive Youth Council who is always interested in hearing your views on services for young people in the area.  Please email the Clerk - carrie@elstreetowncouncil.org.uk  if you have any comments.
